With over a million subscribers, Dr Ken Berry’s YouTube channel is among the most popular health channels on the platform. However, does this mean that you should rely on his tips to improve your health?

The subscriber count is a decent indicator of the value a YouTuber provides, but when it comes to health and longevity, you would want to receive advice from someone qualified, right?

With that in mind, today, we are going to overview the background of Dr Ken Berry and introduce you to some of his activities beyond medicine.

Who Is Dr Ken Berry?

Dr Ken D. Berry is a Tennessee-based doctor, physician, and internet entrepreneur. As far as Dr Berry’s online activities are concerned, he has a YouTube channel where he shares dietary advice to help viewers handle diabetes, obesity, and other health conditions. Dr Berry is a proponent of ketogenic diets as well.

Dr Berry is apparently a cousin of actress Halle Berry as well, judging by this tweet from May 28, 2021.

Dr Ken Berry Bio And Background

Dr Ken Berry’s LinkedIn profile provides plenty of information about his background.

In 1993, Dr Berry graduated from Columbia State Community College with an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Radiologic Technology/Science – Radiographer. In 1996, he received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Zoology/Animal Biology from the Middle Tennessee State University. Finally, in 2000, he graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Medicine.

From August 1999 to June 2002, Dr Berry worked as a Resident Physician at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He also worked as an Emergency Physician at West Tennessee Healthcare from January 2001 to May 2003.

Between 2010 and 2014, Dr Berry served as the Chairman of the Benton County Government.

In October 2003, Dr Berry established The Berry Clinic – a family medicine clinic in Camden, Tennessee. He has been a Physician at the Berry Clinic ever since.

Dr Berry’s LinkedIn profile also states that he has been certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.

We’ve also had a look at what appears to be Dr Berry’s profile on the license search page on the website of the Tennessee Department of Health. Note that the website for some reason doesn’t provide permanent web links for doctor profiles, so you’ll need to look up Dr Berry yourself – just search for him using his first and last names.

Aside from his background information, Dr Berry’s profile lists a number of disciplinary actions taken against him in the past.

In 2010, the license of Dr Berry was reprimanded because he had been unable to substantiate his statements regarding the efficacy and benefits of products named MIC and MIC Ultra that he had advertised in newspapers and on his Facebook page.

Additionally, Dr Berry’s license was placed on probation in 2016, with the reasons including:

  • Prescription of controlled substances and other medications that were not documented as medically necessary for the patients’ condition.
  • Lack of documentation as to how Dr Berry had been arriving at his diagnoses.
  • Lack of monitoring for compliance after prescribing combinations of potentially addictive substances.
  • Prescription of controlled substances to family members.

Dr Berry’s license was placed on probation for 3 years. A $5,000 civil penalty was also assessed, plus prosecution costs of no more than $3,000.

In 2018, the probationary status of Dr Berry’s license was extended for two years beyond the expiration of the initial probation period for violations (such as reusing single-use injection devices) uncovered at The Berry Clinic.

Dr Ken Berry’s profile on the TN Department of Health website also reads that his membership at the American Medical Association has at some point been suspended due to “unprofessional conduct.”

In 2019, a number of online publications (including The Camden Chronicle and WSMV News4 Nashville) reported that The Berry Clinic and Dr Berry’s house had gone up in flames. The Berry Clinic burned on March 25, while the house caught on fire on October 2. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation made several announcements regarding these events, offering up to $5,000 as a reward for information about the fires.

Dr Ken Berry has been active in the digital space for years, particularly on YouTube. Dr Berry joined the platform back in October 2010, but his earliest videos are related to some random, non-health topics. The oldest health video on the channel is dated March 4, 2017.

Since then, Dr Berry has uploaded hundreds of videos covering fasting, diets, hormone optimization, and not only. If you are looking to relieve diabetes or lower your blood pressure, Dr Berry’s videos may be able to help you (though you should obviously consult your doctor first and foremost).



Dr Berry’s channel seems to be very popular – as of June 5, 2021, it had over 1.49 million subscribers and more than 91 million total video views.

Dr Berry has his own website as well, where he has a few blog posts and features some of his YouTube videos. Additionally, he advertises his book Lies My Doctor Told Me. He describes this work as follows:

Is Dr Berry A Real Doctor?

Dr Ken Berry is most certainly a real doctor in that he has medical education and has been a practicing doctor for years. Additionally, information about his licensure and professional background can be rather easily found online.
